ABSTRACT

Objective:To establish a post competency model for clinical medical students in military medical universities to explore the qualities most needed by outstanding graduates. Methods:Through behavioral event interview (BEI) method, the complete interview data of 82 graduates (40 students in excellent group and 42 students in normal group) from a military medical university were obtained. The respondents were asked to recall the three most successful and unsuccessful cases in their past work, and fill in the checklist. The interview data were coded, marked and classified, the interview recording data were analyzed, and the comparison was made between the frequency of competency characteristics and the collection points of excellent graduates. Results:Top 9 competency features with the highest frequency and no difference between the two groups were respectively internal quality (82 students, 100%), clinical medical service capacity (52 students, 63.4%), continuous learning ability (36 students, 43.9%), teamwork ability (38 students, 46.3%), career (66 students, 80.5%), enterprise (46 students, 56.1%), sense of responsibility (42 students, 51.2%), execution (42 students, 51.2%), and coordination of team members (36 students, 44.0%). The proportions of excellent graduates to mention the ability to apply information tools ( χ2=6.80, P=0.009),; master English literature ( χ2=4.42, P=0.036), and be self-disciplined and fame and fortune-weakened ( χ2=6.90, P=0.009) were higher than those of the ordinary ones. Conclusion:This study has scientifically constructed a post competency model for clinical medicine students in military medical universities, including the benchmark competency model (9 characteristics with the highest frequency and non-differentiated between two groups) and the identification competency model (3 characteristics of excellent graduates higher than those of ordinary ones).

ABSTRACT

Objective:To construct the competency model of physical therapists in China. Methods:A set of physical therapists' competency elements was established based on literature review and expert interviews. A questionnaire was designed based on the set, and 641 rehabilitation practitioners were investigated (521 valid questionnaires returned) with the questionnaire. Exploration factor analysis was used to construct the competency model of physical therapists, and confirmatory factor analysis was used to confirmed. Results:The set of physical therapists' competency elements included 74 elements in four dimensions. There were 44 competency elements in the competency model of physical therapists, including five dimensions that were Professionalism and Moral Conduct, Knowledge and Skills of Evaluation and Intervention, Abilities of Educational-Research and Advocate, Abilities of Cooperation and Management, and Basic Knowledge of Discipline, covering 74.41% of the total variance. The Cronbach's α coefficient of the whole questionnaire and each dimension was more than 0.8. Model fitness indexes of confirmatory factor analysis were as follow: χ2/df = 2.340, Root Mean Square Error of Approximation = 0.060, Goodness of Fit Index = 0.746, Normed Fit Index = 0.811, Incremental Fit Index = 0.850, Comparative Fit Index = 0.850. Conclusion:The competency model can provide a basis for physical therapists to become independent occupation, as well as for the education, selection, evaluation of physical therapists in China.

ABSTRACT

Objective To establish clinical pharmacists' competency behavior questionnaire and confirm the validity of the competency model of clinical pharmacists. Methods On the basis of previous model research, clinical pharmacists' behavior questionnaire combining the Likert scaling and literature retrieval method was established, and the competency model was verified by method of exploring factor analysis and " construct validity" and confirmatory factor analysis. Results Questionnaire included 47 characteristic projects and ten basic information projects.Exploratory factor analysis extracted 5 factors, whose content was in accordance with the model of competency characteristics.Cronbach 's alpha coefficients of each factor project were (0.510-0.961).Discrimination validity of the behavior questionnaire was good.T-test results showed good statistical difference between the outstanding group and the normal group, and the empirical validity of the model was better. Confirmatory factor analysis of structural equation model was acceptable, and the CIF was 0. 825. Conclusion The competency model is valid and can distinguish clinical pharmacists with excellent performance.

ABSTRACT

Objective To construct the competency model of excellent and common clinical medicine undergraduates according to the competency theory . Methods Literature search was used to screen competency model. Behavioral event interview was used to interview 32 excellent clinical experts. Open questionnaire survey was conducted to 100 clinical medical undergraduates. We compiled the primary competency dictionary based on the above results. To determine the final competency dictionary, Delphi method of 50 experts was used to determine the final competency dictionary. According to the competency dictionary, a questionnaire survey was made to test the excellent and ordinary undergraduate students. Results The 38 features of behavioral event interview and 42 features of open questionnaire survey were combined to 51 features, which were used as the first round of expert questionnaire. Two rounds of expert consultation reached a high degree of coordination. 4 first level indicators: knowledge and skills, social role+values+service characteristics, self-concept and consciousness, personality quality and motivation and 36 features were established as final compentency model. 80 excellent clinical medical undergraduates got score of 143.65 ±23.53, while 100 ordinary undergraduates got score of 133.55 ±35.31 (t=2.29,P=0.023), which indicated the competency model could distinguish excellent and ordinary clinical under-graduates . Conclusion This competency model of clinical undergraduate students is reliable and practical, which can be used in future clinical undergraduate training and evaluation.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the abilities and personal qualities that medical undergraduates need for their future clinical work, and develop their competency model. Methods The self-made ques-tionnaire survey on medical undergraduates' competencies was conducted among the 1326 medical under-graduates in a medical university by using the cluster sampling method, and the 1099 effective question-naires were collected with effective rates of 82.88%. The exploratory factor analysis was used to analyze the internal structure of competency item and to build the competency model. The rating method was used to calculate the weight of each competency item. Results The overall Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the competency questionnaire was 0.965, and the coefficient of each dimension was above 0.832. The KMO statistic value was 0.970, and the probability associated with Bartlett test statistic was P=0.000, showing that the questionnaire has high reliability and validity. The competency model of medical undergraduates covers six aspects, namely, craftsmanship, personal qualities, professional learning, interpersonal communication, psychological adaptation and the pursuit of excellence, which contain 49 factors. The cumulative variance contribution rate was 54.729%. The weights of these six aspects in the model were 0.204 4, 0.202 1, 0.175 3, 0.158 8, 0.137 6 and 0.121 8 respectively. Conclusion The competency model of undergraduate medi-cal students has a certain scientific and practical value, which can provide new evaluation methods and ideas for medical education objectives, quality assurance, teaching evaluation, medical personnel selection and training.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To establish the competency model for medical representatives in China. Methods:Firstly, the competen-cy elements for medical representatives were defined through the literature research and logic analysis, the importance of each element was then evaluated by a questionnaire, and the survey results were analyzed by a factor analysis approach. Lastly, the weight of each factor was confirmed by analytic hierarchy process. Results & Conclusion: The competency model, which consists of 5 dimensions ( professional quality, professional ethics, knowledge, personal characteristics and relationship management) , 26 competency elements and the weight of each factor, is established successfully.
